The service

RIFF is a language-learning app that helps you learn the vocabulary, phrasal verbs, idioms and cultural references that matter most for enjoying popular series and other works in their original language. Cards and exercises are RIFF’s own content, selected through statistical analysis of language corpora, and the app tracks your progress. An account is required so your progress can be saved and synced.

Your account

Provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential, and use one account per person. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.

RIFF subscriptions

RIFF is sold as an auto-renewing subscription purchased through your Apple ID. Payment is charged to your App Store account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel it anytime in your App Store subscription settings.

RIFF is offered on a monthly plan and does not include a free trial. Prices may change with prior notice and never retroactively. Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store rules.

Free days

Badges and similar rewards can grant free days on your RIFF subscription. These are promotional: they have no cash value, cannot be sold or transferred, and the reward program may change or end. Days already credited to your account remain yours.

Content and intellectual property

The app, its cards, definitions, example sentences, artwork and audio belong to RIFF or its licensors and are provided for your personal, non-commercial learning. You may not copy, scrape, redistribute or resell them.

RIFF is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored or licensed by the producers or rights holders of the series and other works referenced in the app. Series and episode titles are used only descriptively, to indicate which words and phrases are statistically associated with a given work or episode. All trademarks and copyrights are the property of their respective owners.

RIFF’s learning content (words, definitions, example sentences, audio and artwork) is created independently, based on statistical analysis of language corpora. The app does not contain or reproduce any material from these works: no dialogue, subtitles, scripts, footage or audio. Cover artwork is original illustration and does not depict the works, their logos or their characters.

Acceptable use

Do not reverse-engineer, probe or disrupt the service, circumvent technical limits, access it with automated tools, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules.

Termination

You can stop using RIFF or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate the service or your account for breach of these terms, with notice where reasonably possible. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual-property and liability terms) survive.

Disclaimers and liability

RIFF is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or any particular learning outcome. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, and mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence remain unaffected.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the current version always lives on this page with the date above, and material changes will be announced in the app. Continued use after a change means acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates; purchases made through the App Store are additionally subject to Apple’s App Store terms, and mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence remain unaffected.
